Speak up…

Speak the Word :

the SECRET* power of speaking God’s WORD out loud

  • JOB 34:16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: Hearken to the voice of my words.
  • JEREMIAH 23:28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully.
  • EZEKIEL 12: 25 But I the Lord will speak the word which I will speak, and it will be performed. It will no longer be delayed, but in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it, says the Lord GOD.
  • 2 TIMOTHY 4:1 I charge thee in the sight of God, and of Christ Jesus, who shall judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Pray the WORD out loud EVERY morning. It will CHANGE your life. It will change YOU.

* Secret as defined by the Free Dictionary means, “Kept hidden from knowledge or view; concealed.
2. Dependably discreet.
3. Operating in a hidden or confidential manner”

What did you say?

Everything and everyone makes and responds to sound.

Plants do.

One plant that responds to sound-induced vibration is Mimosa pudica, also known as the “sensitive plant.” Vibrations induce electrical signals across the leaflets of this plant, and cells at the base of the leaflets respond to these action potentials osmotically. This response results in a sharp change in the turgor pressure in these pulvinus cells, and that pressure change, in turn, results in the folding of the blade at the pulvinus. Another pulvinus at the base of the petiole may also respond if the vibration is severe enough. This kind of response is known as seismonasty.

Essential Equipment Introduction

Do I have a Martha Stewart kitchen? No. My stove broiler doesn’t work. My spoons and forks are in painted tomato sauce cans, the cooking utensils are in a garage sale crock. My daughter boils our water for tea in another ten cent pot. My cast iron skillets, crockpots and my stockpot were “safety awards” my husband let me choose from his catalog

I don’t have many appliances. The breadmaker I got for Christmas was destroyed in the house fire (2004) as was the ricemaker I got off the bargain returns rack at Wal-Mart. We don’t have a dishwasher… ahem, an automatic dishwasher. There are, of course, plenty of hands to wash dishes although it can be a challenge with one sink and so many people using dishes.

“Hineni.”  Here I am. Writing a newsletter about cooking and housekeeping.

In this space, I’d like us to discuss some equipment for your kitchen. We’ll talk about the essentials and how to get them. Providentially sometimes– Remember, less stuff means less cleaning so we won’t bother telling you about useless gadgets.

But their are some things that are worth the investments. We’ll discuss what those items are and clever ways to obtain them. I especially like items that can do double duty. Remember, I have a lot of mouths to feed so I won’t steer you wrong.

If you have suggestions for this column, please write and send my your review. We can help each other.

Mama never gives up…

There is a funny story I like to tell about my mama’s persistence. Since it is my story, I’ll repeat it here:

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

My mom used to contact the Navigators, an international Christian outreach ministry to college campuses, military bases, inner cities, prisons, and youth camps, whenever my hubby and I were…well, anywhere.

In 1980 I got married and was living in Holland. We had just moved into a Dutch townhouse when a skinny little blonde woman knocked on my door. “You don’t know me but your Mom called our organization, The Navigators. . .”

Then we were sent to Oklahoma and had just gotten moved into a tiny little rental house behind a park. A big burly seargent came to our door and said, “You don’t know me but your Mom called . . .”

Then we were transferred to Texas where we moved into an even tinier little trailer way out in the woods. One day a tall brunette knocked on my door. “You don’t know me but your Mom called . . .”

And then their were the devotionals that just kept coming:
“Daily Walk”, “Closer Walk”, “Family Walk”

The Navigators continue to minister in many areas on the world wide web so if you are a Mama and need a little help: View ways to grow at their website: Grow -The Navigators

Now Allen and I are both maturing Christians who never give up on our children. Thanks, Mama.

Stuff we bought for fixing up my yard

Found Fountain

Found Fountain

Bought groceries and a lot of stuff we had put off. A hand pruner ($4.97), a pair of gripping gloves ($3.97), 3 more small solar lights to match a first one I bought the other day (3@$2.50), some clear silcone ($3.77), and one 3″ chlorinating tablet ($2.27). This stuff is for my gardening, landscaping, yard work.

My yard is progressing. My neighbors, The Whitton family, have such a beautiful piece of property and they always inspire me to work to improve mine. I’ve had some successes and I’m in the process of getting the yard cleared so it doesn’t look like a graveyard for bicycles, lawnmowers and automobiles that no longer function. Two old trucks moved out and another to go soon. Continue reading

Dream Job, check!

Every day as I drove to school, I would look at that big beautiful CenturyTel building. One day, I had a vision as I was driving by the building that I was looking at my truck parked in the CenturyTel parking lot- and I was seeing it from INSIDE the building. I looked down from the third floor window, just under the arch and I could see the truck parked beneath a specific pecan tree and I could see Denmon Engineering’s building in the distance.

Wow. I was so excited. I began imagining driving into the lot, almost every single day as I went to school or came home. I could see myself holding a container with Jackie’s famous “Grilled Chicken Salad” in it and looking out that window. I could see myself walking through the big front entryway. I could see myself strolling along the concrete walkway that wound through the pecan trees to the building’s front door.

When my professor told me to apply for an internship at CenturyTel, I didn’t want to do it. I couldn’t see myself knowing enough to get an internship. I wondered how I would finish school if I was “working” and worried what impression it would make if I applied and then failed. But he insisted so I did.

I talked to the interviewers and waited. Oh, well.

Later, I applied again. I was different. More confident but still didn’t know how I would “work” and go to school. This time I had that vision in my head of pulling in the driveway and walking in the building. I told the interviewers when they asked about my plans for the future: I want to be at CenturyTel!

Hooray! I got the internship. BETTER YET- it’s absolutely PERFECT. I’m in the web development department and getting know the wonderful people there. The team is AWESOME. They are really busy but they take the time to show me how things get done and they are giving me tasks to make me feel like I am useful and part of the team. Our team leader is very nice and has given me the option of flexibility in my schedule so I can continue to do well in school, too.

I tell everyone that you know you are at the right place if you would go there EVEN IF they didn’t pay you. I would – but they DO pay me! GOD IS SO GLORIOUS! Thanks, Heavenly Father.
