Verses to study and meditate:

Matthew 6:24-34 24“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

The Cure for Anxiety

25“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27“And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

red birds and choices

Red Bird

Red Bird

Years ago, after a fire had done damage to our house, I decided that every time I saw a red bird to remind myself out loud that God knew where I was and that He had a plan for me. Later after we’d gotten back into our house, I decided to plant some pretty bushes and hang out some feeders… thus INCREASING my opportunities to SEE the red birds. My children blessed me with pictures of red birds and even a button I could snap on my blue jean jacket. So I have reminders everywhere to MAKE THE CHOICE to believe that God knows where I am and that He has a plan for me.

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. -Joshua 24:15

a new direction, an old focus

Although I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems and started a business ( Julie’s Simple Web Solutions ), I find myself going in a new direction. One day I stood in front of my book case, it was filled with expensive computer books. I asked the Lord to give me direction. What was I to do with all these expensive books now that I was again a SAHM?

My time at CenturyLink allowed me to meet some really good programmers and see what it would take to be one. I knew that I would NOT have the time to devote to studying the skills I would need to do that. But here I am with this expensive education and in need of provision.

The Lord brought back to my remembrance the original vision for Moms’ Survival Guide: Providential Homemaking. So I will study and pray and allow the Lord to direct me as I seek to do His Will with the resources He has given me.

And the Lord said to him, What is that in your hand? -Exodus 4:2

Mama never gives up…

There is a funny story I like to tell about my mama’s persistence. Since it is my story, I’ll repeat it here:

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

My mom used to contact the Navigators, an international Christian outreach ministry to college campuses, military bases, inner cities, prisons, and youth camps, whenever my hubby and I were…well, anywhere.

In 1980 I got married and was living in Holland. We had just moved into a Dutch townhouse when a skinny little blonde woman knocked on my door. “You don’t know me but your Mom called our organization, The Navigators. . .”

Then we were sent to Oklahoma and had just gotten moved into a tiny little rental house behind a park. A big burly seargent came to our door and said, “You don’t know me but your Mom called . . .”

Then we were transferred to Texas where we moved into an even tinier little trailer way out in the woods. One day a tall brunette knocked on my door. “You don’t know me but your Mom called . . .”

And then their were the devotionals that just kept coming:
“Daily Walk”, “Closer Walk”, “Family Walk”

The Navigators continue to minister in many areas on the world wide web so if you are a Mama and need a little help: View ways to grow at their website: Grow -The Navigators

Now Allen and I are both maturing Christians who never give up on our children. Thanks, Mama.
